Archdiocesan Prayer for Vocations
Heavenly Father, your Son has revealed Himself to be the way, the truth and the life. He has given us everything that He received from You, and so asks us to leave everything to follow Him. With trust and confidence in your almighty love, we pray that the young people of the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas, enlivened by the gifts of your Holy Spirit, would respond generously and courageously as you call them to the priesthood and religious life. May they always have strong examples of holy priests and religious to inspire them, and with your help, may they rise above their fears, doubts and misunderstandings of your call, and be able to follow Jesus your Son more precisely. You chose Mary to be the Mother of your only Son. May she inspire all those who look to her for an example of vocational discernment to respond with humility and readiness of faith. Through the future priests and religious that You are calling, may many more people have life, and have it in abundance! We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.
Vocation Prayer for 2008-9 The Year of St. Paul
Heavenly Father, through the words of the great apostle St. Paul, you invite us to 'offer our bodies as a living sacrifice to God, our spiritual worship.' In this year when we seek His favor and follow His example, may many of the young people of the Archdiocese desire to sacrifice their lives so that the love of Christ may be revealed in our time. By the working of the Holy Spirit, may this desire overwhelm all desires for the things of this world, and show itself by many of our young people being willing to pursue vocations to the priesthood and religious life. Buoyed by the prayers of your great apostle St. Paul, who endured many hardships for the sake of the Gospel, may more young people fearlessly say 'yes' to the life you have marked out for them. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever! Amen.
